Participants in this course will increase knowledge and develop skills to.
-Identify characteristics of gifted learners as distinguished from other populations.
-Provide an extended description of each characteristic of gifted learners.
-Provide examples of behaviors and functions that distinguish gifted learners.
-Incorporate knowledge of the characteristics of gifted children into appropriate selection.
-Use and implementation of measurement instruments and assessment activities.
-Demonstrate knowledge of delivery models as related to characteristics of gifted children
PARTICIPANT MUST BE ENROLLED IN THE GIFTED IN-FIELD ENDORSEMENT PROGRAM
TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS CLASS.
Step 1 - Enrollment Process
To enroll in the Gifted Endorsement Program the following information is required:
- Gifted Program Application Form (download from Professional Development Page);
- Participant is automatically registered for the remaining three online courses unless RESA is notified of intent not to participate;
- Written recommendation of current principal or other appropriate supervisor in the employing system;
- Written statement of personal and professional characteristics that would indicate the likelihood of being successful in the work of the Gifted Endorsement Teacher;
- Valid clear, renewable Georgia teaching certificate; and
- Copy of college transcript.
All paperwork must be signed by school principal and system staff development coordinator.

Step 2 - Course Registration Process
Participant must register for the first course in the series only. To register, go to PL Courses, All Classes by Date. Participant will be automatically enrolled in the remaining courses and notified prior to each course of enrollment and option to cancel enrollment if no longer needing to take the course.
Step 3 - Course Description - Please Read
This is the 3rd course in a series of 4. Participants in this course will develop knowledge of models of gifted education and develop skills in critical analysis of various models and in evaluating procedures recommended by each model. Particular models will be discussed with respect to their procedures and their fit with the multiple criteria outlined in the rules for gifted education. Cognitive characteristics, learning characteristics, social emotional characteristics, and behavioral characteristics of gifted children necessitate different instructional designs. The course will incorporate multiple intelligence theory.
The Gifted In-field Endorsement program consists of four courses:
- Characteristics of the Gifted,
- Methods & Materials for Teaching the Gifted,
- Curriculum & Program Development of the Gifted, and
- Priorities for Assessment of the Gifted.
Each course consists of 50 total contact hours (5 SDUs).
Participants must complete and pass all four courses to receive the Gifted In-field Endorsement. It is strongly recommended, by the program instructors, that these courses be taken in the sequence listed.
