PURPOSE

The purpose of this 3-day workshop is to build teachers’ understanding of the progression in fractions and decimals, equip teachers with effective instructional strategies to build students’ fractional/proportional reasoning and problem solving, and foster student-centered, discourse-rich learning environment.  

 

* This course addresses content standards in grades 3-6. 

 

LEARNER OUTCOMES:

 

  • Knowledge: Participants will gain an understanding of the learning progression in fractions and decimals, key elements of fractional reasoning, multiple representations, and instructional strategies that maximize student learning. 
  • Practice: Teachers will become equipped with Effective Mathematics Teaching Practices (NCTM, 2014) to promote Standards for Mathematical Practices involving fractions and decimals in their classrooms.
