Course Description: This 5 PLU course explores the nature of culture and the role of cultural factors in the teaching and learning of English as an additional language in U.S. schools.

Course Goals:

  • to explore the nature of culture and gain an understanding of how one’s own and others’ assumptions, attitudes and behaviors are shaped by culture
  • understand and analyze the connections among language, culture, and education
  • to know and apply major theories and research related to culture in the instructional setting
