The Utah Middle School Math Project is a set of free, open-resource materials
available online.  They were developed by educators in Utah based on the Common
Core State Standards for Mathematics and the Standards for Mathematical Practice as
the underpinnings for all the lessons planned within the various units. The guiding
principle for this work is that the teacher orchestrates the learning in the classroom, not
a text or group of standards. The goal is to provide teachers, students and parents with
materials that are varied enough so that they can learn from them, adapt them, and use
them in a way that makes them comfortable with the authority they have. Success for
student learning in middle school mathematics hinges on student engagement in the
classroom with a solid and flexible understanding of the subject being taught and the
intentions of the course material by those teaching students. The Utah Middle School
Math Project resource is built to provide the materials necessary to teachers to make
this goal a reality.

The Utah Middle School Math Project training will highlight these resources as well as
the Standards for Mathematical Practice and the 5 Practices for Orchestrating
Productive Mathematics Discussion for authentic teacher use within their classrooms.
 Though developed originally to support the implementation of the CCSS, these
resources also fully support the implementation of the Georgia Standards for
Excellence.
