Self-Directed courses are designed for those who did not make it in time to join a cohort or a person that comes from a different program that only needs a class or two to complete, all modules are open on Day 1.  A Participant has twelve weeks to complete each class, and can complete before the twelve weeks expire.  Instructors work independently with the candidates.

PARTICIPANT MUST BE ENROLLED IN THE GIFTED IN-FIELD ENDORSEMENT PROGRAM

Course Description

This course focuses on assessment of gifted learners in both the classroom and for identification for gifted programs. We'll examine statistical principles related to testing, uses of portfolios, observation checklists and rating scales, teacher-made tests, grading, and standardized instruments for mental ability, achievement, motivation, and creativity, as well as researching program evaluation tools.

Course Goals

Participants in this course will increase knowledge and develop skills to:

  • Explain basic statistical principles that will help educators explain standardized test results (reliability, validity, confidence interval, true score, etc.).
  • Know how to create more reliable and valid assessments.
  • Understand how can checklists and rating scales aid assessment.
  • Describe the use of portfolios as assessment instruments.
  • What is the purpose of grading?
  • Identify the standardized instruments, which are useful in assessing mental ability, achievement, creativity, and motivation.
